The shop is stocked for the holidays! Lots of new things in there…….. take a peek!

If you are swooning over the nature notecards….. save and buy a set! There are less fees that way and I pass the savings along to my customers. The cards are perfect for teacher’s gifts! I sold several at the fair last weekend for folks putting together gifts for teachers. (don’t forget music teachers too!)

I’m offering a one week sale this year! Use the code wintersale to save 10% off your order and receive a surprise gift too. (good through next Saturday – 12/6)

Thank you to all of you support small and handmade businesses during the holidays.

notecards!

A few weeks ago I shared an album of images on facebook asking for help to choose some images to get made into notecards. I then ordered cards, envelopes, and plastic protective sleeves…. all from different places. I was nervous something would be the wrong size….. but as things began to arrive over the last few weeks my worry was replaced with giddiness. Everything came out perfect….

notecards!

The images are a collection of favorites over the last few years (and houses). Louisiana, Alaska, Massachusetts. Each listing has a little story to go along with it so you know where the picture was taken….

They are small-ish notecards :: 3.5 by 4.75 inches.

Just the right size for anything.

Printed on high quality recycled cardstock (yeah!)

Paired with 100% post consumer recycled envelopes in Kraft brown with an easy peel and stick seal. (double yeah!)

I just listed them in the shop as singles, sets of three, and a set of all eight prints.

It’s always so amazing to see your photograph on a card. In print. Thank you so much to all of you who helped choose the images! And of course all of you support my little homespun business.

So tell me…. do you have a favorite? Mine is a toss up between the Lupine and the honeybees….

just keep sewing, just keep sewing…… (and a festival!)

just keep sewing, just keep sewing...... (and a festival!)

As I type these words I am laughing at the loose serger threads stuck all over my shirt. My big girl just put a pot of coffee on (at 4:42, yes) And I am looking at a late, late night ahead. Somewhere in between running the big boy around for job searching, the big girl around for show choir & marching band, and the little girl around for violin camp I have fit in at least 20 hours with my sewing machine the last three days. (little man has been my sidekick, and kind of feral too) I’ve got a good twelve plus hours ahead of me too….. phew! I’ve been on facebook a little this week. Posting pictures (the quick easy smart phone sort) of what I’m working on. Asking for music suggestions. And admitting to my chocolate habit. (it’s bad. really bad.)

If you’re in the New England area and looking for a fun event Saturday, I’ll be at the 27th annual Arts & Artisan Festival in Tiverton, RI. There will be music and food and a whole lot of creative folks showing off their goods. I’d love to say hello to you!

Back to the sewing machine….

(and back here with random acts of homesteading and kid stuff next week. I promise!)

Finally (finally!) getting my stack of sewn bits photographed and into the shop.

It’s far more work than you might imagine to take shop-worthy pictures. Because my customers can’t touch and see my creations with their own eyes & hands, it’s so important. I’m learning….. figuring out the difference between what I like and what catches the potential customers eye. Separating my shop eye from my everyday eye…. if that makes sense?

I’ve been sewing up the kiddo bags in lots of four. So four bags of each color. This means less photographs! This is a good thing. I just listed six new colors. Swooning over the feather & fox ones myself and my little guy suggested the vikings and robots.

Adult-sized totes for the minimalist! Simple design. Solid linen back & cotton or linen print front. Padded quilted strap. Key/pen loop. The bag has a layer of flannel sandwiched inside for extra durability and weight. These are perfect for holding journal supplies, a few books & magazines, lunch, knitting projects, and more……

Two new silk colors. A lovely spring green and winter sky blue. Both in the large 35×35 inch size. They make awesome nature table cloths, dress up, capes, and more. The blue one is my favorite! It’s totally inspired by snowy winter nights. These are both limited colors dyed in OOAK small batches, like all my multi-color silks. I’m always open for color suggestions too! They really are so fun to dye up.

Lastly, I’m thinking of getting a few prints done again. Notecards. I’m down to my last ten of these. I think I want cards that actually open next time instead of post cards. Any thoughts? Small-ish ones? What size do you seem to use the most? Big enough to mail? Small to tuck in with gifts? I’m sort of hooked on a wildflower theme……. tell me what you think. I so love input from you all!

Happy Monday~~

in the studio……..

in the studio......

The last week has been my busiest ever.

Gearing up for the show. Sending out orders. So. Many. Orders. I am (of course) grateful to be so busy, to see this little business doing so well. It’s still crazy though, much being learned to do differently this time next year in hopes of creating just a little more balance?

In the meantime. The studio is where I have been all day. All week. Dyeing up custom orders. Restocking all my silk colors for the show Sunday. Sewing bags, banners, & blankets. I added two new silk blanket colors. Grey & rainbow. Playing around with some very simple shibori techniques for my women’s scarves. Moving, and changing, and moving tables and screens and shelves to create a layout for my booth. That’s a sneak peek for you. Still need to sew up three panels of linen to replace the brown floral on the screen in the back.

Custom orders are closed until after the holidays and the 16th is the last day to order for holiday delivery, so things will be slowing down in just a few more days. It’s taking a lot of extra help from my family to fill my regular shoes. They are working hard too. At this point though, I think everyone is looking forward to next week. Especially my youngest girl, who is in need of some mama time. I think baking cookies and making a few Christmas decorations is on the top of her list……

See you sometime next week.

for you :: a silk + flannel blanket giveaway

5I wanted to share a few more pictures of the new blankets in the shop.

They are delicious!

A few details about this blanket::

After discovering that many of my customer’s children were using their play-silk as a comforting blanket, I decided to create these. This blanket makes the perfect security blanket to nurture little ones. Children find the softness of silk exceptionally soothing to the touch, they love to cuddle this silky blanket against their cheeks.

The silk is hand dyed in exquisite hues with eco-friendly dyes. The soft organic cotton flannel is unbleached & fair trade. This blanket silk is nearly three times thicker than my play silks and it is the biggest, most luxurious silk & flannel blanket that I know of. Triple stitched for durability. 41×41 inches of soft, delicious warmth for the special little one in your life.

Easy to care for, and even easier to fall in love with.

. . . . . . . .

And guess what? I have one for you! It took several test blankets to figure out the perfect hem. Let me tell you, silk is not easy to sew with! It likes to stretch as you sew, and it’s so slippery! After a few tries (like six!) I finally found a finished edge that I loved. I sent all but one of my test blankets to friends to try out…. but I saved one just for you! It’s got a different binding than the ones pictured above, but it is still lovely in every way. I want the color to be a surprise for the winner, but it’s definitely gender neutral and sea inspired.

To enter, leave a comment below and tell me what color you would like to see in this new blanket! Extra good Karma if you choose to share it 🙂

**giveaway open until Friday the 29th at 10 pm eastern time, winner will be announced Saturday the 30th**

Good Luck!

Congratulations Allison, I’ll be in touch for shipping details. Thank you everyone who entered and helped with color ideas! So many lovely ideas for me to choose from!

Just popping in to give you a peek of the newest items in the shop

Luxury blankets for little ones sewn up with heavyweight charmeuse silk + organic fair trade cotton flannel. I sent these out to testers this summer and everyone has adored them. They are pretty much the ultimate baby blanket and I am so happy about the softness and crazy beautiful hues. *swoon*

After about a zillion requests I finally dyed up scarves for mamas. This is the first batch and I will have more colors and sizes to come in the next few weeks. I’ll have pictures of them on people too once it stops raining. They’re gorgeous though, I promise. Any color suggestions? I’m all ears….

Lastly…. I’m discontinuing my aprons. I need more time to sew other things (bags, etc) and I am paring the shop down a bit. I decided to offer the remaining stock at $15 each. (Regular price $28-$24) I do think they’ll go quickly…. so take a peek and grab one if you like.

The shop is full of new lovelies.

New Aprons. New Bags. New multi-hued Silks

A lovely new shade I call furlough blues. And that’s about as political as I’ll get, really. But if you need a good debate, go visit facebook. I mean, wow….

Moving right along though, I also wanted to give you guys a sneak peek of two new silk banners. The chickens got one and our friend Avery woke up to see the moons strung up over his head last week. (his mom took a picture, which made me cry, because I’m a big ol’ softie like that) The phases of the moon has been a dream of mine for months. I made the stamps and hand-stamped the silk squares with soy ink before dyeing them a deep blue. My little kiddos want one for their room too, which means the four remaining will be in the shop by tomorrow, along with a half dozen triangle ones too.

I’m gearing up for TWO art festivals this winter. One in New Hampshire, November 23rd and one in Rhode Island, December 15th. The busy chaos involved in art festivals is still new to me, but gosh it sure is fun to meet people face to face and connect. I’ll have more details as they get closer…. but save the date to visit if you’re in New England! I’d love to see you.

I guess that’s it for today….. but just for fun, tell me what new shop item you love the most up there. Well, you know, other than the feathers. Because seriously, everyone loves the feathers. I’ll be making up more of those soon!

Happy Thursday to you~~~
