her quilt.........

I finished the quilting and sewed the binding on just before the NYC trip. As we chatted and drove I handstitched the top of the binding to the front of the quilt. We spent both nights drinking wine and laughing. And stitching. We got three quarters of it done over the weekend….

And then… determined to lay it over her while she slept… I finished it early this week. I should have been doing a dozen other things. Truly. But I'm glad I chose this.

The fabric is a mix of old, old, old Anna Maria Horner (good folks) and Heather Ross (Mendocino) from my stash. Perfectly complimenting one another…. as their lines often do. The backing is a twin sized flannel sheet. This was my friend's idea and it was a good one.

I want to tell you more…. but there is an empty suitcase looking at me and I really need to get packed for this trip. (Alaska…. little brother's wedding in 4 days… oh my!)

And now it's done. My first real quilt pattern. I goofed when cutting and had to add a chevron row. It's off centered and has a grey polka dot center for fun. And then I added the feathers for a bit of length. She loves it. That's the most important part of all….

Well, and that it's really, truly, finally done!

xo,

ps ~ thank you T for helping me finish this… love that we both put some time into it. xo~

  2. Oh, Stephinie – it’s so beautiful!
(Also, I love the idea of using a twin-size sheet as a backing. Totally filing that one away for when I make Julia & Asher’s quilts…)

  3. Stephinie, it is to die for. I’m all in now. I’m going to go for it on a quilt this summer. I cannot believe that this was your first “real quilt”. I’ve had Anna Maria’s feather quilt pattern in the hopper for a while now but it seemed like it would take way too long for a first quilt project. I love the idea of adding some on the border, very clever.

  4. The quilt is incredible. I love the feathers at the end and all the little details. Great idea about using a sheet as a backing.

  7. I have made four small ones in the past with just squares, but this is my first pattern. It was super easy…. Even though it looks tricky. Very forgiving πŸ™‚ the feathers are so lovely, right. I plan on making her a matching pillow this summer….. Must use up every little scrap…. And I just sent some mermaids your way with your book! Enjoy!
