We spent the entire weekend home, working on the garden and house. I told him this was my favorite sort of weekend… staying home. Everything I love is here….

I finally got a big container to start doing continuous brew kombucha. Nothing like a big ugly scoby floating on your kitchen counter for a conversation starter. "What is that?"

The first peony opened. Such a treat to see it before we head to Alaska later this week. They are my favorite flower and I am so glad this one came with the house…..

The chickens are a little less free after a fox incident. I walked inside for about ten minutes and one was plucked from the yard, squawking wildly. Maggie raced through the yard and ran over the fox, rolling it. The fox let go of the chicken who flew/ran to safety and Maggie chased the fox out of the yard. Aside from a few missing feathers, the chicken is fine. One good farm dog and one lucky chicken! Now they are only out when we're all out…..

Lemonade season is here….

…..and wildflower season too.

We're eating piles of greens from the garden and our CSA. It's like a quest to keep up with it all and our bodies are happy to play along.

We ate late every night last week. Ending the weekend with burgers, grilled pineapple and peanut-butter brownies topped with vanilla ice cream to celebrate that guy we love so much.

Hoping your weekend was just as lovely in its own way…..

  1. Perfect last weekend home with all of us before the big adventure later this week…. Joe is staying home with the garden and all these critters of ours. I always miss him when we're gone… he is my favorite πŸ˜‰

  2. I usually tuck my kombuchas in the cupboard as I’d read they shouldn’t be in light. Does it really matter????
I’ve thought about continuous brewing, so I’m interested in how this works for you.
    Have a wonderful trip!

  3. My countertop doesn't get direct light…. so I figured it would be ok. It's tucked into the darkest corner. We've been continuous brewing for a week and it seems to be going really well. When I am home from my trip I plan to bottle a few each week and do a second ferment for carbonation. I'm hoping that is successful too!

  4. The way you describe your “race to keep up with the greens” is music to my ears. A perfect type of race to be sure! Hoping your richness continues…

Peonies were my moms fav flower also. Which is why I have a giant tattoo of one on my leg. Plus when Gregg and I bought the house it has some that come up every summer. I was so excited when I saw them I almost cried. We bought the house in May and they hadn’t popped up yet.
The BBQ looks delish.. but I keep eyeballing your Avocado.. Ive been addicted to Avocado like crazy lately. YUMMOLA!
I have to ask… what is Kombucha?
I hope you have fun while up here in AK. Cant wait to see your posts about it πŸ™‚
