from nyc.....

I spent most of the weekend with my mouth gaping open, looking up. I didn't snap many pictures of our city wanderings. All five of them are right there. As we walked around, and found our bearings, and navigated….. the camera just didn't make its way out of the bag much.

This was my first visit to NYC. I'd driven through once, years ago. My oh my, I am a country mouse for sure. I felt overwhelmed by the busy-ness and greatness of it all, standing at the base of enormous buildings and looking up, up, up…..

We spent the majority of our time at the workshop, which I have more to share about tomorrow, and we had a brief trip into a lovely old print shop in the Seaport Museum. Bowne & Co. Stationers started in the late 1700's and the store is historically set up as a 19th century print shop. The old printing press (seen in the back of the last photo) is amazing and produces beautiful work. I really enjoyed looking around the shop and came home with a few reprinted vintage nature posters for the kids (bottom right, last photo).

I'm still catching up after the trip…. so I've gotta run. Swing in tomorrow! I have a little something for you and lots of pictures from the workshop. Fun stuff!

  1. Nice pics, I loved the stationary shop + posters. Ted gave a reserved thanks for his prints (stinker), but I will enjoy them anyway.

  2. Ive always wanted to go to NYC (for a day or two) Thanks for sharing your pics. The print shop is pretty neat. I woulda loved seeing that in person.
The 2nd pic.. is that a bridge connecting those two buildings? My knees would go completely weak up there. People are much braver than I am lol.

  3. lovely! we’ll be up in jersey for a friend’s wedding and to visit my in-laws next week and we might try to hit up the city for a day to see what we can get into. that print shop looks amazing.

  4. There is so much going on! I'd find one little section and walk around all day…. if I ever go back I'll make sure to visit an area with small local shops and cafes. We were in the financial district because it was walking distance to the workshop & there wasn't much for bakeries and little shops there. If we stayed longer we'd have gotten ourselves to a different part of the city to explore…..

  5. For sure. If I did it again I'd make sure we stayed in a better spot for window shopping and eating. I do wish we had an easier time finding these things…. because I *know* there is an abundance in nyc!
