We’re pretty no frills around here when it comes to Mother’s Day…. a few handmade goodies from the kiddos and some yummy meals pretty much sums it up. The big girl always gets creative with cards & helping her younger siblings make them. The one from Luke is a moon that says “I love you to the moon and back.” Which is the sweetest because I tell him (and all of them) that when I tuck them in at night. Sophia made me a lovely log book for my bees, and she and Luke (with a little help from Joe) made a pollinator house for the garden.
We recently attended a local event on helping native pollinators and I really wanted to build a bug hotel for the garden. We have lots of bumblebees and I hear there are mason bees in the area too. I was so excited at their creative version…. that little chimney (or chim-en-y if you say it like Luke!) just puts the whole thing over the edge for me. I tucked into my favorite corner in the garden. It will be fun to see who moves in!
Happy Monday……

I'm thinking we should make a few and have them for sale at the craft fairs this summer. I little wood burning and a bit of beeswax finish to fancy them up? We've got a lot of logs left from the trees we cleared!

I have life long MN friends who are ready to throw in the towel and move in with us after the winter you guys have had. I can't believe the ice on Lake Superior! Spring will come…. I'm sure of it π

What a fun present! We did this a few years ago (although our setup is not nearly as cute) and it’s been so fun to watch.

I think any big chunk of untreated wood will work. He just used different sized drill bits for the holes & a limb for the chimney π

A lot of eggs, generally, which eventually hatched. I kept hoping to catch one coming out, but no luck. Here’s a picture: http://www.mybitofearth.net/2013/06/sunday-morning-team-up.html
