More random life bits. I hope you don't mind.

Have you ever wished to be a cat? I'm not really a cat person. I don't love them. Well, I love ours…. but as a whole I don't swoon over cats. I definitely lean towards dogs. But to be a cat? I mean seriously. They eat, bask in the sun and sleep. Not so bad….

All schoolwork possible is done next to the fire these days. My poor little southern boy keeps asking me if winter will ever end. "I'm tired of all these clothes." he tells me. "I just need shorts and bare feet now." That sounds pretty good to me too. It's been cold all week. And back to the fire, I thought the mess would bother me more, but it doesn't at all. I mean, come spring I'll be wiping down walls and scrubbing the whole room for sure….. but in the meantime the extra dust, pine needles, and occasional spiders are a-okay by me. Basking in the warm glow is worth it all…..

Beans, chips, avocado and beer. Late night dinner by the fire. I got half of dinner ready last night and zipped out the door to bee(!) school(!) leaving the evening shuffle all to Joe. I arrived home to a vacuumed and mopped house. He is so good. I've been working on an online herbal class too. It appears I am a master of adding even more to our busy days. I think that is just life. It feels good to be doing something I want to do though. Something I have to show up for. I'm usually just the chauffeur for someone else. So, yeah. This is good busy.

I am struggling with photographing those silk colors. None of them show up accurately despite my best of intentions. Then I tossed them in a pile and took a picture and it ends up being the closest yet. New larger silk scarves on the bottom, turquoise smaller silk scarves in the middle, and some new multicolored playsilks on the top. I have been taking so many pictures…. trying to get a shop update pulled together. It's my least favorite part about work. And the most important part too. Hoping to have it all done by the end of the week…..

I have a quilt top to show you!! (insert super excited squeal!!) I just need someone tall enough to hold it up + home when it is light out. This weekend? I can't wait for you to see it. So much treasured stash in there. Anna Maria's Good Folks from forever ago (have you seen her new quilt, swoon…..) and also some Mendocino from Heather Ross. Speaking of HR…. my sweet friend gifted me (and herself) to a weekend workshop with her. WITH HER. Eeep!! It's in June. In NYC. Just the two of us. I can't believe it.

Lastly. Dessert for breakfast. I made some crazy good granola. I used half coconut & half oats. You have to use the super big coconut flakes. Also, I added a half cup of chia seeds. Which sort of get stuck in your teeth. Just thought you should know if you tried throwing them in there. But it was so totally delicious with strawberries and nutmeg cashew creme. Yum, yum, yum.

Off to get this day started…… (after granola, of course.)

xo,

  1. I don’t MIND at all your random bits, in fact, I quite enjoy them! Would love your recipe for nutmeg cashew creme. I just had myself some steel cut oats with chia seeds, walnuts, and raisins. The bits of quilts I did see in your pics look marvelous! LOVE AMH! And the quilt hanging on the back of your chair looks wonderful, too! ALL your pics look wonderful! xo

  2. I remember daydreaming about being a cat. But now my brain turns to the practical side. I don’t just see the laying around in the sun. I see being dependent on humans for food, using a communal litter box, and grooming with one’s tongue. A cat’s life is less appealing with these thoughts at the front of my mind. (:
(That said, we have eight cats and love them all dearly.)

  3. I could have written the exact words about cats, those are my feelings to a tee;and we have twin cats, mine is named Bette Davis.
Your quilt top is beautiful. Learning to quilt is on my to learn list, but right now I am absorbed in knitting.
My boys are ready for warmer weather too and I live in the south, but it’s cold here [which I love].

  4. Lots of specialness in all that regular stuff. My favorites are the beautiful quilt and the prospect of coconut granola with cashew cream. I recently made a savory cashew cheese, sweet hadn’t occurred to me yet….thanks!

Have a lovely day by that fire. That’s where we usually can be found, too. We even move the school table in front of the fire and do school and meals right there on the really cold days.

  7. Love the bits and pieces – like sitting at the table having coffee together. Discussions always twist and turn and change and go back on themselves. I’m just cutting up the pieces for a smallish quilt top for my 4yr-old granddaughter – just some bits and pieces (chuckling at how I fit that in) that are now going into a quilt she can carry around to play on. Enjoy the next storm – we’re expecting around a foot of snow – hopefully no ice as we lose power with downed trees and branches on the power lines. Its supposed to hit Boston with a bang Thursday night or Friday morning.

  8. Uh, yes, please! To all of it! I definitely need to hear more about the coconut in the granola, cashew cream, and herbal class (not necessarily in that order). 😊

  9. I can’t wait to see how you quilt the quilt. That’s very exciting stuff. I love cats, I can’t wait to get one~ I especially love yours, and my kids talk about Jasper for months after a visit. He’s pretty special.
Avocado & chips – all day, everyday = yummy. Just put it on everything.

  10. I'm not sure I love it. But I'm invested so I need to finish. Drop me an email, I'll chat with you more! I wish I'd have found the New England Herbal Academy class sooner. It looks like a much better fit for me. Maybe I'll do that one next!

  11. Hello Idaho!! On a random note…. I was born in Idaho. Then my adventurous parents made they're way to Alaska where I grew up. I still go back every few years to visit my Aunt & Grandma. School table in front of the fire?!?! Now that is an idea 🙂 My kiddos would love that!

  12. The quilt sounds lovely. I'm sure she will adore it. Yes, the storm has started. A few inches of snow this morning and now rain. We're about an hour from Boston, so I think we'll get more wet than fluff in this storm. Everything is canceled and I will be happy when my teenagers are home safe from school. It looks like an icy mess out there! Yuck. Hoping it stays warm so the trees don't get too iced. This freezing rain is so hard on them. Stay safe & warm!

  14. He's really pretty sweet. Despite his one bad habit. Which I am in the process of gathering and photographing as evidence against his perfection. (hehehe) I could pretty much eat that dinner about 5 days a week and not get tired of it. The other two days could be salad + cheese + wine. And I am seriously giddy every time I think about our adventure to NYC with HR. Ahhhhh! So exciting……
