home…….

The last week has been a roller coaster!

Our closing kept getting delayed again and again…… all over a silly railing. Such an excersise in patience and letting go and just being where we were….. oh my!

But just like things often do, everything worked out beautifully. The seller of the house (who grew up here!) insisted we move in as soon as we arrived in Massachusetts…. before the closing…. she couldn't think of leaving the house empty. When the paperwork was finally all in proper order and I got to meet her, I was greeted with the biggest hug and gushing excitement about a young family being in the house again. I have this feeling we might see her again….

After an hour of signing we left the attorney's office floating on clouds. Me & Joe. (he met us here with the truck full of furniture!) The house is ours. Ours. In honesty, it mostly belongs to the bank…. in fact I think we own little more than the front steps. But we are home.

I have so much to tell you about this new place of ours, but I'll start with a few images from our walk through the property last night. The house sits on an acre and is about half woods…. which abut more woods and a trail that will never be developed, so it feels like a forest in the backyard. From the very back of our property line, you can barely make out the house. One of our property lines is an old stone wall! We've seen so many birds, including a wild turkey today, and have had great fun identifying brambles, chives, flowers, and poison ivy!

Even though it's spring and everything is still mostly a tangled mess of brown…. I'm already in love.

  2. Hurrah and congrats!! I’ve been checking in all week hoping to se your good news. It looks fantastic. I love that the previous owner hugged you. When we signed papers on our house the previous owner cried, because she was so happy a young family with 3 girls, just like she had, were moving in her home. I got a hug as well. Aren’t people just wonderful! Can’t wait to see more. Enjoy YOUR home!

  5. Stephinie! It sounds perfect! We have a similar situation, two acres that is ours, but surrounded by undeveloped forest, so it feels like so much more. I can’t wait to see more!

  6. Yay, you are home!! How touching that the previous owner gave you welcome hugs. I’m sure it warms her heart to know a young family will love this place as much as she did. Can’t wait to see photos of your new space. The few you included in this post show what a beautiful location you have found. Enjoy your settling in time!

  7. The chickens will be here in July! I ordered 8. I'm putting in a small garden bed in the next week or so too. It won't be much, but certainly something to tend to during the summer and so long as I can get fresh tomatoes, I will be one happy lady!

  8. I quite agree…. we are grateful to be mostly out of suitcases. Step one is to get kid rooms painted and unpacked so they have a sanctuary while I attack the rest of the house! Hang in there KC…. I hope you are home soon.

  9. I thought of you and the girls (and all our lafayette peeps really) this morning when we saw a falcon, cardinal, red winged blackbird and hummingbird in the yard. I wish you were all close enough to come over for coffee and a playdate! xo~
