squeezing in some work time......

On sunday (even though we’re waist high in piles of stuff, boxes, and packing tape) I spent the entire afternoon working. I dyed nearly a hundred play-silks and got a tiny speck of sewing done. At first I declined Joe’s suggestion to spend the afternoon doing this. There is just so much going on right now, you know? But he was rather insistent….. and it turns out that it was really a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Creativity always fills me up, and I always forget that when things get busy. I find a million things to do other than write, sew, knit, create….. and it always leaves me feeling cranky and sort of empty. Do you ever just want to kick yourself for doing the same thing over and over…. when you know it’s not what you need?

And perhaps most of all, when things get busy it is important to take a few moments to nourish one’s creative being. Whether through work or knitting or writing. It’s amazing what five minutes can do to soothe my soul…..

  1. it seems counterintuitive that work could fill the well, but creative purposeful meaningful work does the job for me every time. πŸ™‚

  2. Lovely! Over 100 silks! Amazing! (BTW – I love your little bags)
I have spend the week waiting for election results to come out and am getting irritated. The kids sense the tension as well and maybe we should follow your example to leave all to what it is and craft for an afternoon to find our equilibrium back. The results will eventually be announced anyway.

  3. The bags are my little post card sets πŸ™‚ It was my busiest silk day ever…… but the end is so lovely. Folding up all the silks and thinking of the children who will play with them. It warms my heart every time. I hope you find a bit of time to create and find some peace while you wait for results….. you're right. What will be, will be. xo~~

  4. Oh man…I so know what you’re saying here. I remember in the midst of an international move a few years back, when there were a million tasks to be done, I had to go to the art supply store. All my creative implements were packed in boxes and in route from one country to another. I just had.to.make.something. Take those five minutes, or whole afternoons, they’ll make you less stressed which will be better for you (and everyone who knows you, too). πŸ™‚

I love that. It's important to remember when life is crazy…. even just to dream a bit is calming to my soul. So glad you swung in from Kindred πŸ™‚ Always lovely to meet new folks…
