I love hiking this mountain. (the ski hill)

Even in the rain.

It drizzled as we made the climb. Through the trees. The grown ups huffing and puffing to keep up with the running and jumping children. Their level of energy amazes me. And all of that from kids who have spent the last three years in nearly paper flat terrain.

Our hoods pulled over our heads, barely speaking. Mostly working to keep a quick steady pace.

We get to the top with legs burning from the climb. Breathing heavy.

Even with the heavy fog, the expansive view is breathtaking. Mountains, islands, town, and sea. The younger kids are beyond delighted to find snow to run and slide in. Just then the clouds open up a tiny bit to let the sunshine peek through. Oh that glorious sun. Shining on us as we skip down the hill.

It is certainly one of my most favorite places to be.

Most of the kids & I are hopping on a plane tonight to head to Sitka. We'll be staying with some good friends of ours and (best of all) meeting up with Joe tomorrow! I'm leaving the computer behind and taking a little hiatus….. but I've got some posts set up for you while I'm out. I'm sharing a photo a day, some of my very favorite ones from this summer. So swing by to take a peek. I'll be back in this space next Tuesday!
