making

So uhm. I meant to get here about 10 hours ago.

But you see…. the day got away and I had a chance to finish my weaving this afternoon! Yes, it's really, truly done!! Also I made some really kick butt calzones for dinner where I used a wine bottle as a rolling pin for the dough. I felt like a smarty pants when I came up with that idea.

It's still raining. I think we're on week three. And I might be one of the few Cordovans skipping through town with a smile on my face. Because I know the secret. The secret being that 55 with rain and gusty wind is still better than 93 and humid. It's true. And did I mention the power went our for two days at home. TWO DAYS!! I can't even imagine.

But what I really have been so excited to share with you since this morning was this.

Some making.

Over the last week most of us have been taking some sort of jewelry making class at The Net Loft. We've got a lovely little pile of handmade loot. The process involves pressing some metal blanks and then painting and polishing them. We all really had a great time.

Wanna see?

Jade & I even snuck away for a whole evening to take a class together (thank you mama for watching the littles!) We had such a fun evening with our classmates and both came home with some really lovely jewelry. (the set with the necklace is Jade's and the set of four earring is mine)

We've all been so smitten with our creations. And we're not too cool to look at each other and say "oh where did you get that lovely piece of jewelry" and the other person will reply "oh this, I made this." Yes, we're silly. Also we might have a touch of cabin fever. But hey, at least it's not hot!

This making was so fun that I'm thinking of pulling together a little tutorial when I get home to inspire you all to make some yourself. What do you think?

  1. Yes, please! I’m so impressed with your creations! And rain…my goodness, we’re dying from it here in Ontario, experiencing the worst drought in 50 years. Living in farm country, it doesn’t take long to recognize the effects. We’re all praying and rain-dancing like fools, and watching our wells. This is usually such lush country and everyone’s houses are nesting on lawns that are completely fried by heat and drought. Enjoy every drop of that rain!

  3. These are beautiful! I want to learn:-)
I will take 55 and rain. Maybe for a few days, at least.
My brain is too mushy and my hair is too frizzy with thick humidity.

  4. I'm headed back to that in a few weeks. I'll be sipping iced coffee and only wearing my hair in a pony tail for about two months. It's funny, here my hair is almost straight and in Louisiana its a wild out of control wavy mess. Oh that humidity….

  5. Thank you! I will definitely pull one together when we're home next month… so keep an eye out. It will give us something to do when we're adjusting back to sticky hot of home!
