This space is filling up with treasures.

Bits of sea glass, shells, rocks and feathers from our wanderings. Some of it will stay here. Tucked into window sills as a reminder of our visit. Other bits will be carefully packed into suitcases in a few weeks to go home with us. I've yet a third little something planned with some treasures… to share here with you. It's almost ready…..

Can we really be over halfway through this summer adventure? The calendar tells me it is so. In just a few more days we'll head to Sitka to meet up with Joe and I know all to well how the last bit of this vacation time always speeds by us before we're ready to give it up.

I'm hoping these things found will hold memories for the kids when we return home. I hope they hold these bits of beach in their hand and think of the cool ocean. Running along the beach in low tide with the misty breeze kissing their cheeks a soft pink. The smell of the salty air and sound of seagulls flying overhead. Time spent laughing with people they love.

I know their mama will.

  1. LOVE it!!! If you can, can you have sophie bring a few pieces of sea glass and a few of the prettiest shells home for Raelee? She would LOVE that. I can send you money to ship some home if need be. I know that can get to be a bother having to bring stuff home for ppl when you are already limited with space

  2. Being able to physically hold the things that can bring such wonderful memories will be so beautiful. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer vacation goodness.

  3. That last paragraph…loved it so.
We are heading to the coast of Maine on Saturday. I simply cannot wait. If only I will be so lucky to find sea glass, feathers, treasure…

  4. Oh Katie…. I visited Maine for the first time last June. I fell head over heels in love. I do so hope my journey drops me off there in the near future. Have a wonderful, wonderful trip! I look forward to seeing it through your pictures….

  5. Thank you Heather, we are soaking up every last bit. And yes, there are definitely bits of magic within these treasures. (and I'd like to add, I am still smiling about that pony tail blonde beauty of yours…. over the top cuteness that little one! truly.)

  6. We are a treasure-gathering group too (although our beach doesn’t yield sea glass–I wish!) and we have special rocks and shells and outside stuff everywhere. Sometimes I dream about those little display cases that natural history museums have, for the very specialest inspiring bits, except they’d have to be open, so we could touch them. Alongside our basket of tree blocks we have a basket of great big quahog (clam) shells that also get used in the building creations. I love the treasures, too, Stephinie!

  7. The quahog shells sound awesome! I’ll bet they make great roofs and boats and all kinds of wonderful things. I love the idea of having a big dresser some day with shallow drawers that could become little display cases. Such fun! And we’re running out of window space too!
