Happy Mama’s Day

from my little ones

To all you mamas young and old who do so much for your babes & families, happy day to you!

I think we can all agree the moment that first sweet little one was placed in our arms, our life was forever changed.

I've recently very much enjoyed Edie Brickell's newest song. I thought I'd share the lyrics with you. She sums it up pretty well for me, there isn't any other place I'd rather be then with my little (and big) ones. And best of all, I know my own mama feels just the same way.

{Happy Mother's Day Mom!}

waiting for me (edie brickell)

you call me up on a saturday night
half intoxicated with a crazy bunch of guys
say you're at a party and i really oughta come
then you hold the phone up so that i can hear the hot drum beat

if you're waiting for me
you'll be waiting for a long time

i don't wanna leave the heart of fun and happiness
i don't wanna walk away from love and tenderness
i'll be on the sofa watching rented videos
i'll be getting closer to the one who satisfies my soul

if you're waiting for me
you'll be waiting for a long time

i have up and changed my ways
things will never be the same

it isn't like i'm missing out on anything tonight
happy as can be i got my babies by my side
one day i will turn around and they will all be grown
then they will be going out and won't be staying home with me

if you're waiting for me
you'll be waiting for a long time

i have up and changed my ways
things will never be the same

  1. Oh, that song brought tears to my eyes! Remember being in your early twenties and thinking you’d NEVER be satisfied to “get old” (ie. not want to party and go out dancing every weekend!)…and now the highlight of my week is Friday’s pizza-and-a-movie night with our kids. Happy Mother’s Day to you.
PS I heard Edie’s “What I Am” on the radio recently and remembered how blown away I was by that song…it was so cool and different for the time when it came out; sang along a remembered being young(er)…glad to hear she’s still singing!

  2. If you’re waiting for me,
you won’t be waiting a long time,
I’ll be there in 20 days,
to sit on the couch with those babies of yours
I love you my “Mama hero”
    See you very soon!

  3. Isn't it such a great song? It's just too perfectly written for me. I so remember that change taking place in my life. And now a good party involves pizza and movie night, just as you said. And we *love* it 🙂
