It was a rainy day.
A good day.
A day spent baking and learning about colonial times and making sourdough starter and fresh pesto from the garden. A day spent talking about how rocks form while waiting for the bread to rise.
I didn't get everything on the list done….. and the kids still had their usual squabbles…. but at the end of it all… it was just one of those really fulfilling days. You know, the ones where you felt truly present throughout the whole of it…. I don't know if it was the intoxicating smells of fresh bread and granola that did it…. or if it was the ever present Christmas music in the background….. but for whatever it was, I am thankful.
We tried Adirondack Mama's Granola Recipe and it is so very delicious!! I love my recipe too, but dried cherries and pumpkin seeds really add some flavor, we love it!
I had a pile of fresh basil from the garden (in December!) so we also tried a Walnut Pesto Recipe from Kiss my Spatula….. this is amazing! And there are several homemade recipes of yumminess over there to enjoy. We'll certainly be headed back over there to try some more!
While looking at that pile of homemade yumminess I realized all of it would make the best of Christmas gifts. I love a cookie as much as the next person…… but give me a loaf of fresh bread and you have a friend forever…..
I can smell the bread from here. what wonderful things to be thankful for. I can eat my weight and my husbands in bread and butter. Really I can. π
